VAAS has a program to help small, grassroots community and faith-based nonprofit organizations by providing training, and consulting. The Small Organization Support (SOS) Project will help strengthen your organization by providing the following capacity building services:
- Set up your nonprofit
- Understand how to manage your money
- Create a Board of Directors or become a strong Board leader
- Plan for your future
- Build or become a strong staff
- Reach out to your community and get them involved
- Understand what kind of computer equipment and software you need to get the job done
- Assist you in achieving your mission!
Who can participate in this new program?
You can participate if you:
- Are a small organization or group with an annual budget of $50,000 or less, and you...
- Are a community based or faith based organization that offers social services to people in the community.
In addition, the program prioritizes organizations that:
- Serve low-income communities, immigrants and/or refugees, communities of color, and rural communities, and
- Have never received a direct federal grant
Services to SOS Eligible Groups

- In-person resource center hours for face-to-face help
- Training for SOS eligible groups
- Consulting for already enrolled organizations
- Technology support
Will these services cost money?
No! If you are chosen to participate in the program, all of these services are free.
